Overview

COURSE OVERVIEW

This one-day conference is intended for multidisciplinary clinicians and school personnel who are involved in the acute and chronic management, return to school and return to physical activity of students with concussion. Sessions will go beyond the basic concepts of concussion diagnosis and management, exploring evidence-based models for managing students and athletes in the academic setting. Speakers will discuss ways for the medical team to partner with school nurses, school administrators and ATCs, addressing both cognitive and physical rehabilitation, psychological impact of concussion, and strategies for prevention. Recent advances in neuroimaging will be presented.

CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course due to any unforeseen circumstances. In the event of cancellation or postponement, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia will refund any registration fees, less a $40 service fee, but is not responsible for any related costs, charges or expenses to participants, including cancellation charges assessed by hotels, airlines or travel agencies. In order to process refunds for course withdrawals, cancellations must be received in writing by Friday, March 30, 2018. No refunds will be issued thereafter.

Objectives

  1. Recognize the paradigm shift of using school and the athletic training room for concussion rehabilitation
  2. Discuss the changing dynamic of using exercise in concussion recovery
  3. Recognize various outcomes in pediatric TBI
  4. Implement academic accommodations and classroom management of the concussed student
  5. Address behavioral and mental health issues as they intersect with concussion

The conference will be held Thursday, April 12, 2018, at The Union League in Philadelphia, Pa. Registration will begin each day at 7 a.m. Registration fees include continental breakfast, breaks, meal vouchers and conference materials. The registration fees are:

Accreditation

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education to physicians.

AMA CREDIT DESIGNATION STATEMENT

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia designates this live activity for a maximum of 8.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

CONTINUING NURSING EDUCATION APPROVED PROVIDER STATEMENT

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. This activity has been submitted to the PA State Nurses Association for approval to award contact hours.

ATHLETIC TRAINING CONTINUING EDUCATION

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc., to offer continuing education for Certified Athletic Trainers. This program has been approved for a maximum of 8.25 BOC approved CEUs. Certified Athletic Trainers are responsible for claiming only those hours actually spent participating in the continuing education activity.

PHYSICAL THERAPY ACCREDITATION

Continuing Education Credits have been applied for: PA Physical Therapist.

DEVELOPMENT OPTOMETRY ACCREDITATION

Pending 8 hours of COPE Accreditation.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has reserved a block of rooms with reduced rates at The Inn at the League, 1450 Sansom St., Philadelphia, PA 19102.

The Inn at the League has recently renovated, four-diamond quality hotel rooms and suites in the same building as the conference site. The group rates are $225 single and double occupancy plus a 7 percent room tax. This rate includes a full breakfast, use of the fitness center and internet access. Participants are required to make their own hotel reservations by calling the Inn directly at 215-587-5570.

Please mention the name of the conference when making your reservations. The special room rate will be available until Tuesday, March 13, 2018. After that date, reservations will be accepted on a space and rate availability basis.

Dress Code at the Union League The dress code at the Union League (unionleague.org) is business casual, which is defined as a collared shirt and slacks for men and appropriate attire for women. Jeans, other denim wear, athletic attire, T-shirts, shorts, baseball caps or sneakers are not permitted in the Union League.
